Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. She is both the first female vice-president as well as the highest-ranking female official in the United American. She is a member and former US senator representing California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco's district attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the 2nd African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator , and advocated for healthcare reform, federal cannabis de-scheduling, the possibility of citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her name is well-known due to her direct questioning of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
